About Me

“And I’ve grown familiar with villains that live in my head. They beg me to write them so I’ll never die when I’m dead.” – Halsey

If any song lyric could sum up my writing style to a T, it’s this one by Halsey. For years, characters like those in In the House of Rosewood have sat in the corners of my mind, poking and prodding at me to set them free on the page. A classic pantser, writing often feels like interviewing my characters for a biography: I’m never entirely sure where the story is going to go until they open their (metaphorical) mouths. It’s exciting, it’s frustrating, and, for those who don’t understand, I’m sure it makes me sound a bit mad. But for those who, like me, enjoy a bit of madness every now and then, I welcome you to explore my works and come along for the ride with me.

To date, my work contains elements of thriller, gothic, horror, and occult stories, but I will leave it up to my characters to decide if that’s where I stay! When I’m not writing or working my 9-5, I can be found enjoying a good horror movie (slashers and found footage are my preferred genres). I have also begun racking up some horror icon meet and greets at conventions, and can be found ringing in every October in one of my favorite cities, Salem, Massachusetts.

See below for more about me, some of my other (non-book) publications, what I am currently obsessed with, and where to connect with me on social media.

Press Kit Author Bio

Ashley Hawley earned her Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing in 2016, though the Rosewoods have been begging her to tell their stories since their first appearance in a short story she wrote in high school. By day, Ashley manages the grants department of a national nonprofit organization. When she’s not working or writing, she can be found indulging in her love of horror movies, making annual October trips to Salem, MA, or relaxing with her family in Ohio.
